Galaxy S7 gets unboxed underwater by T-Mobile

T-Mobile is no stranger to clever PR stuntwork. Over the last few years, the “un-carrier” has clawed its way back from a disastrous decline to become the third largest carrier in the US. This success can largely be credited to some sharp guerilla marketing techniques that tackle current events in unexpected ways, often with their polarizing CEO John Legere behind the steering wheel. Today T-Mobile continued in this tradition by releasing a video in which the Samsung Galaxy S7 is unboxed underwater.
It’s a perfect way to showcase the flagship’s powerful water resistance capabilities. The Galaxy S7 can allegedly function just fine under five feet of water – including making and receiving calls – for up to thirty minutes. From the looks of this video, it would appear these specs are accurate.

T-Mobile’s Des has playfully donned an appropriately pink snorkel and a pair of goggles for the occasion. As the unboxing proceeds, he has to struggle to keep up with unexpectedly buoyant pieces. Although the smartphone appears to have suffered no damage from this little adventure, we doubt anyone is going to want to try to use those earbuds or the charger.
From the look of those pictures snapped during the demo, it looks like the Galaxy S7 will quickly become a favorite for off the cuff underwater photography. In terms of more regular use, you certainly won’t have to worry about your smartphone while you’re at the pool or in the shower.
MWC has only just begun, and already hijinks and fun are at an all time high. Stay tuned to Android Authority to stay abreast of all the shenanigans and awesome tech reveals. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts on the S7’s water resistance. Is this a feature that influences your decision to buy? Let us know in the comments!
