Got a penchant for VR but not deep pockets? Well, if you’ve got a recent gen Samsung phone in your pocket you might be in luck. Starting yesterday, Samsung started preorders on Samsung.com,Amazon.com and BestBuy.com for their Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus.
Price you ask? $99. Not bad, but again, you’ll need to bring the screen, as in the phone. Compatible handsets include the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, as they boast the necessary AMOLED display.
Shipping? November 20th. Or you can just cruise into a Best Buy and give it a good old hands on, or face on, try. T-Mobile will also sell the VR headset come November 27th, with AT&T following sometime shortly behind.

So what’s new about the Samsung Gear VR vs the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition? It’s now 19% lighter and is apparently much more comfortable as it includes new foam cushioning. Samsung has also updated and improved the Gear VR’s touchpad, equating to greater and easier control.
Compatible VR content will of course be limited in the beginning, but grow with time. Upon launch, Samsung says that there will be dozens of new games via Oculus, along with content from Netflix, Lions Gate and others. How many of those will actually employ or offer a true 4D environment remains to be seen.
